Smile long test ride a must

had to butt into this one ,,i had the very same dillema ,realy boils down to what you want out of your bike
,,the trek like every other bike on the market has its faults ,check out the bmw gs site you will be shocked
,,but having ridden the new multistrada s touring back to back ,although its faster ,,not that much by the way ,, i would not be able to justify the price of one over the true bargain the trek is over £6000 less new, i paid £10000 less than my pal did for his ducati and it is no way that much better ,even he admits it he nearly cancelled his order when he rode my bike ,only didnt as he was worried about reliability,,the latest trip of 3000 miles round the alps in the pissing rain was a great tester ,guess what not a single problem, kind of proved its self 43 mpg average after the latest mapping ,realy comfy ,and ohh the noise nothing sounds better in those tunnels ,,

in short a realy great bike you need to ride

oh and you all should try the maxxis sport touring tyres ,,realy impressed

Sorry about the location thing I thought it come up in the corner of the email, I’m based in Torquay, Victoria, Australia (that’s about 120 ks out of Melbourne) just at the start of the great ocean road, for those that surf about 10ks from Bells Beach.
Trevor

PS I’ll keep you informed of the outcome, and again thanks for you input.
Trevor,
being an ex-Victorian/Box Hill, who travelled to Apollo Bay every month for most of the mid-late eighties(a fantastic stretch of road), would've thought a TNT or CR would be a better option, just soak any exposed alloy with Armourall to prevent salt-oxidation!
With the TNT, you can easily change to higher-bars, bigger screen, etc, plus add panniers, stick on a Motty and still have change when comparing to the price of a new Ducati!
ps: the Multistrada 1200S broke the record for the Pike's Peak Hillclimb, so it must be an amazingly well-balanced bike!

Hi all
Again the feed back is great stuff and some good points I need to consider.

Pilgrim, thanks for the TNT suggestion as I haven’t consider them at all as yet, the trek has caught my eye, what more can I say. Your right about the GOR, a great road to ride but it’s now being over run by police every weekend now.

Also the dealer thing, “some not mentioning Benelli on their website” that’s what I found as well. The last importer went broke about 18 months ago as far I can make out and some of the newly listed dealers still are not mentioning or playing down Benelli (most states)?

Also I rang the Ringwood dealer last week and again yesterday as they didn’t get back to me, they were very helpful (thanks Tuono) once I got talking about the bike, to cut a long story short, only a few Trek’s left in the country and the importer is not bring any more in at this stage? The importer will concentrate on scooters for awhile. Not sure about the other models…didn’t go their. also no demo trek.

Adiemoto, your right about the GS and Multistrada as these are the other two bikes I was looking at first, they all have good points & issues and the price of the Ducati is over the top and the looks are not that good, the plus’s with these the back up is stable, but the trek has the looks..

My dad would say, if it’s got a motor or tits you’re going to have troubles.. so better get something worth looking at while working on it....

That’s it for now, still looking..

Trev,
your Dad has it right!
The TNT/CR is the best looker, (apart from a Titanium)!
Cheers.
