    Coil Wiring Help

Would like to replace the coils wiring of my SEI, the wires which goes from the coils to the spark plug cap, but I do not know how the wires are attached to the coils. Are them screwed, glued?. Can I pull off from them without any risk for the coil?.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Carles

I mean this point, where the wire comes into the coil.

The high voltage wires are glued into a hole. There is a spike at the base of the hole to make the contact. I have used a hollow drill I made to get the wires out but you can do it with a screwdriver. Remember these coils are all 30 years old now and they weren't that good to start with. I would replace them with something modern. I tend to use the TEK KP03 coils fitted to Kawasakis etc but you need to make a small bracket to fit them. Any coil with a 3 ohm primary will do!

On the 900 there are often faults in the tiny wires from the ignition trigger coils.

Very good help and useful info., Chris, thank you!.

Still I do not tried to start the engine and one of the reasons was the coil wires. Most of them are loose and very old. As you suggest, I will take in consideration to replace all the coil set if any problem.

    Best regards!.

Here's a pic of the tool I made. You don't need metal that is very hard as the coil casing is only plastic. I cut the teeth at the end with a Dremel. Your coils and wires look like new. The outer rubber is simply a protection for the normal high voltage wire inside. This outer cover always looks a bit loose. You seem to have the original Ariete spark plug caps too!

Is a nice tool Chris, thanks. Which software are you using to draw such detailed 3D?.
Yes, the coils are apparently in a quite good condition but some of the wires (not appearing in this image) are rather aged. The plugs cap are also old, some of them have lost a red circle that acts as a seal.
I thought better to replace both wires and the caps. What do you think?.

    Thanks and regards.

I'd just replace the caps unless the wires look rough - that outer protective tube does a pretty good job. Just snip the last 5mm off the end of the inner cable to expose some clean copper. The plug caps are available from Carrott Cycles and other Ariete dealers but most people fit NGKs. The software is just Autocad and an old version at that.

    Thanks for your recommendations, Chris.
Will work on this things the next days.
Probably I will fit the NGK, easier to find in my area.

    Cheers.
