I have a 1983 Sei with only 6000 miles on the clock. It ran OK but the plug leads disintegrated and the choke lever does not stay in the up position when you try to start the bike, so I've decided to do a number of mods to get my Sei on the road for this summer.
I have replaced the coils, leads and plugs supplied by Selwyn and fitted an excellent Motobatt battery. I'm sure I've connected everything right and there is spark at the plugs but the bike now won't fire at all.
I noticed there is no smell of fuel on the plugs. It could be that the carbs need overhauling. I could send them to JRS in Swansea but I have been told that a good performance mod is to fit Moto Guzzi V65 carbs with a Kawasaki 1 into 3 throttle cable which would not cost a lot more than a carb overhaul. Would like to know if anybody has experience with this carb set up. It would also mean I could ditch the existing airbox and filter set up. My only worry would be setting the 3 into 1 cables and keeping it in tune.
I have also purchased Sachse electronic ignition which will hopefully sort out the annoying 'surging' when pootling along at 30mph which I have noticed happens on my other Sei (I presume it will be the same on this one). I haven't fitted it yet but would like to know how to find top dead centre.
Summer is nearly here and I'm desperate to get the beast on the road!
Any advice greatly received!
