    250 2c carb tuning

Just got around to starting my bike for the second time in 30 years after restoration. Very hard to start and won't run without the choke lever pulled and I'm getting white smoke even after its warmed up. I put the poor initial starting down to old fuel and wrong mixture so as a temporary measure ran with new fuel and no oil mix so was surprised to see how much smoke was being generated. Also RHS exhaust is significantly cooler than LHS - both sparks are decent. Any suggestions regarding these observations?

Hi, never run a 2stroke with no oil in the petrol, you will cause serious damage in a small time. It sounds like the carbs are not balanced correctly. Try raising the throttle slide on the side the exhaust is running cool on. It might be worth cleaning out the carbs if it's been left for a while the slow running jet might be blocked!
    good luck

as richard says, pull the carbs and gie them a good clean, the white smoke means either theyve got a new pope or there is water vapour in the exhausts
when i was young i was very indecisive, now im older im not so sure.

When I took my 2c to its first mot it smoked like a chimney after 10 miles the bike cleared the crankcase of any old 2 stroke oil and the smoke reduced. I now run 40/1 semi synthetic silk Ilene scoot oil and it only wisps a small bit of smoke on hard acceleration!
