    Wish me luck...

    Hi everybody,

My name is Pete and I live in New Zealand. I've owned a lot of motorcycles of various capacity and quality over the years, but this coming weekend I'm about to buy my very first Benelli.

The bike was parked up and running in 1986 but hasn't moved under it's own power since.

It'll require a complete restoration, but I'm looking forward to the challenge, God willing, I'm hoping that I will have 5 years or so to complete the project.

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice, I've never seen a 650 Tornado in New Zealand.

    Cheers,

    Pete

That looks pretty complete, should be an interesting project. I've had my Tornado for about 3 years. They're great bikes, well engineered and good to ride. Well worth restoring, best of luck.

    Hi there,
I know this is an old thread but was wondering how you are getting on with your Tornado. I am also in Auckland NZ and just purchaced a 74 S2 in not bad condition but wasnt running.Eventually got it fired up after replacing coils and adjusting temperamental points but in the process broke kickstart and sprag clutch is playing up so now just trying to locate parts. Be interested in getting in touch if interested

    Hi Neill,
I've still got the Tornado. I did a few miles on it over the summer but it's off the road now, I'm replacing the (rusty) spokes with stainless and there's a small patch of paint to repair on the tank before it's ready for action again. I'm hoping to cover a few more miles on it next year.
I seem to remember spending quite a bit of time sorting out my points and timing. It runs well now though.
Hope you manage to sort out your kick start, does the electric start work OK? Mines kick only as it's an early one!
I don't know how easy spares are in your part of the world, I assume you know about https://www.benelliparts.de/ and Benelli Bauer? I've had a few bits off them.
