HELP NEEDED. Benelli 750 SEI Fork Rebuild.

I have a spare set of forks for my 1977 Benelli 750 SEI. Also, a new pair of Fork bottoms. I’m rebuilding them and plan to swap them with the ones on my bike. From the parts diagrams, I have determined that I have the Series II style, with the internal “shock absorber” cartridge. My manuals are all about the earlier style forks. I have mine apart and can get what I need. QUESTIONS:

    1. What Fork oil is recommended?
    2. What volume is required in each leg?
    3. Where does the oil go in?

Thanks in advance, any help and advice much appreciated.

Lawarence...... Thanks for this. So assuming that small amount of ATF goes in the top of the fork tubes, after removing the long securing bolt and the cap (14 mm Allen key)? That securing bolt screws into the top of the “shock absorber”. I guess the oil has to find it’s way by, down into the base of the forks? John D.

The 750 Sei forks are Guzzi items, they take 50cc of ATF, just pull the damper out and fill the tube, the fluid is just to prevent corrosion and not for damping. The dampers are sealed and the factory dampers are junk. Replace with FAC dampers for a Guzzi 850 Lemans (MG Cycle).

Greg Bender's web site "This Old Tractor" has thousands of pages on Guzzi. He has all the repair manuals - Look up Tonti Fame bikes - search topics - Fork Rebuild for info and consult the Guzzi V Sport - Le Mas 850 Manual.
