    Unhappy 304 mixture advice

I have recently aquired one of the last new 304's and am having problems getting it to run well. Initially, I had to take the carbs off due to the mixture being too rich. I discovered that two of the jets were totaly unscrewed and lying on the bottom of the float chambers. However, after re-assembling it, the bike will tick over perfectly but, even when it's warmed up tends to run weak from around quarter throttle. I have removed the carbs again and double checked all the jets and carb bodies but everything seems ok. I could lift the throttle needle a notch but am rather loath to do that. First because I don't want to keep disturbing the bike if it doesn't work and second because it is quite a tricky job. Has anyone else had a similar experience and found the cause of the problem? If so perhaps you would be kind enough to advise me please.

    Smile 304 mixture advice

    Hello Steve,

You have answered my question - many thanks. The original handbook recommends first notch for the 304 but I will now move the needles to the second notch and I,m confident it will do the trick. Thank you again. Bruce.

    Smile Engine revs

Thanks again for your reply and advice Steve. My 304 is running beautifully now that I've lifted the needles but would you know what the engine revs should be at at around fifty miles per hour in top gear by any chance. I'm used to twins not four cylinder bikes but the engine does seem to rev considerably. Thanks again.
