    250 ‘egg’ - shifter ‘sticky’

    73 250 SuperSport. 800 miles
the shifter tends to ‘stick’ a bit and not return to the middle position after shifting.
the spring feels nice and strong, and it does not always do it.

I have not pulled the side cover off yet, but I thought I’d ask and see if anyone else has had that issue and what the problem was.

I have the same issue, seems to be binding on the egg case cover hole the shaft runs through. Wish I had a definitive answer for this, don't yet.

I’m not sure what was in it when I got it (it did it then also) - but not Mobil1 10-40 motorcycle oil. I ran the same stuff in a previous ‘egg’ Benelli (‘66 200 Sprite) and no shifting issues. It was a 4 speed and not a five speed.

I certainly have oil I can try, but I’ve used this in dozens of bikes with no issues.

The O-ring in the outer case may be too large and may cause the problem that you discribe here.
