Does the noise change when you pull the clutch in and engage a gear?

Remember that they are an inherently noisy engine with all those valves, rockers, cam chain, etc. Mine always sounds like there's a lot going on in there.
But there shouldn't be much noise from the transmission or clutch when idling.

Not uncommon for the 750 primary chain to be noisy at idle. I suspect the 900 is the same way.

I noticed the primary chain had been hitting the case on my 750 when I tore it down (replacing). A few have added a tensioner. I wouldnít mind that, but I donít know it is required. (I probably wonít be putting a ton of miles on my bike).

Also, the carb syn is pretty critical for smoothest running.

Hi I have 2 900 seiís and the clutch can be noisy on both. The noise reduces when the carbs are well set up but I have never completely silenced it! I think itís the dry clutch which can be noisy like on early Ducatiís!
mine has rattled for over 35 years! despite replacing the primary drive chain 2 years ago. I found running the engine on 98 Ron super unleaded fuel makes them run better and faster!

The owner's manual states that the bike should run 98RON so that's what I've always used...
