Sometimes you have to manually connect using the serial port com3 option within the tab at the top .
But also you may need to restart the laptop as sometimes the program goes into meltdown . Lol.
I'm assuming you have the ignition on as if ready to start the engine.
Let us know how things go .

Could be some incompatibility problem between cable and laptop. I bought a Lonelec cable but I couldn't get it to connect. After some email exchanges with the cable supplier, he came to the conclusion there was a fault with the cable, so he sent me a replacement cable free of charge. It made no difference. I still couldn't get a connection.

I then bought a cable from Stingerwolf (on this forum) and it worked straight away. Never did figure out why the Lonelec cables wouldn't work with my setup.

Did you read the instructions carefully depending which windows version you use for to get the correct driver. Also I think there can be problems with cheaper cables. Also that dot.net thing iirc I had trouble finding that. Or try the Android version. I have both and find the windows version more stable but that is using serial cable and not usb dongle.

Size: 2.76 MBUSB part of the cable is marked as Unitek. so I'm plugging in to USB on the laptop. I'm running a program called Bluestacks which enables running an app (.apk) therefore using the android app version of Tuneecu. So, I connect everything, start the program, turn on ignition, response comes up that program needs to connect via Bluetooth. This message suggests to me that cabling is the problem? Thought about doing away with USB cable and plug in to coms port on laptop, but would need a male to female adaptor. Maybe thats the next step?

If you have a 9 way D serial connector that is the easiest but modern pcs don’t, hence the need for usb. But yes tuneecu needs to know which port if you are using usb or serial. You can usually look in (on my old laptop anyway XP )Control panel, system, hardware,
device manager, ports. (On my window 7 laptop ) control panel, hardware and sound, device manager, ports, And you should see which ports are available (normal serial is a low number maybe 1 to 4 and usb are higher numbers)
And use windows version I find it more stable than the android one anyway.

Have today eventually managed to get my laptop to connect. I had many failed attempts to get the USB driver to load, eventual success. So now I have option to manually connect. When I do I get the red flashing light and it does not seem to want to go yellow or green. Instead I get a message to turn ignition off then on again, which I do, all to no avail.
    Anybody have any suggestions???

Connect to the dongle or the ecu? The lights change when it communicates. Have you selected ecu type?

Have you selected the port number? It is best not to use auto connect.
