Coil Sticks TREK Amazonas running like a Bag 'o' Crap

    Hi Ya's,
Put the bike away for the last two months. Got it out today to take it for an MOT. Starts fine but obviously running rough, then a real struggle to get it to pull away without stalling. Once on the road it's running like a Bag'o'Crap............ obviously on two cylinders and suddenly leaps forward as and when the third cylinder kicks in then out then in...........arghhhhhhh!!

    Right caaaaaaaaaaaaaalm rant over!!

I'm thinking a duff coil stick (it's still on the original Benelli one's). So wonder if forum members can help me out with a couple of questions.

    1. How do I check each coil stick to identify the duff one..........(they are all clean with no corrosion and look as new)
    2. What is the best option for replacing them all......(I think this is the best plan). Is there a full explanation of how to do it with some diagrams please.

Great forum and thank you for your help.

P.S. Got it through the MOT though

Before you go to mad, get a new set of plugs and whop em in. if it runs fine prob solved, if it cuts in and out ,its unlikely the coil stick is faulty, might be dodgy electric feed to one stick but get a new set of plugs first.
Plugs are under load in compression and may well spark if you run them in the air, like getting all the plugs out and rest them in the coil sticks on the head. if one is not sparking and new plugs, there is your problem. them check the electric connections to the coil and if that all good, you will have identified the suspect coil.

If changing the plugs doesn't resolve the problem, check the header pipes to see if one is cool. If so, swap the coil on this cylinder to a different position and see if that one then runs cold. If it does your coil stick is duff.

TechAuto coils are good replacements and a lot cheaper than Benelli parts

Are they a straight swap or do you have to hack up the wiring?

The TechAuto coils are a direct replacement for the originals.

    Thanks lads,
Right been out this morning n started the tractor............ number one cylinder header pipe cold so I'm still thinking coil sticks (spark plugs were replaced last Feb).
I will swap that one over tomorrow and then let you know how it goes.

I'm also leaning towards Triumph coil sticks (cheap as on e-bay). Anyone know where I can get the connectors for them please.
    Cheers,
