The starter motor turns the engine through the Z25 shaft. Did you remove the shaft to check it was ok? There have been a few (old design) shafts that have broken in half which would stop the starter working.

Just tried the link and it works fine for me. What do you see?

On the link i get....Der Zugriff ist zur Zeit leider nicht moeglich...
I didnt remove the shaft. I gues i should
. When i remove it i must put something insted of the shaft yes? so that (i dont know what it is caled sorry. My english is not all that good) doesnt fall down

Yes that is correct :)

You can see a drawing here : Your Benelli Superstore!

And the thing that can fall down is your Sprag gear clutch....that is the one direction starter gear who allows the engine to run without the starter runs with it :)

Hej Leif

Fy fan;)

Did you have to pull the gearbox out? and was there any other harm done? and:eek: I know I ask a lot....was that a new style Z25, if yes how was the mileage on the gear?
No other harm done. Managed without removing gearbox :)
Dont know if new or old type Z25. Low milage on the bike if the odometer is true...
Roman, new gear bought at Maniac.

If it has two oil holes in the shaft it's the old type. The new type only has one.
It only have one hole so then it's the new type. Is that usual? Thougt it was only the old type that failed....

Z25 Gear and Clutch problems

Hi,
New to the modern day Benelli's (I own three of the Sei models) and looking for some guidance/insight assistance. I recently bought a 2007 TNT 1130 Sport with 9000km. I love it it is such a beast and a blast to ride.
First. I cannot get neutral when at a standstill, the bike starts and runs well, but the clutch side is quite noisy so of course I tore it apart to see why, all the gears look good and all the plates, breville etc are all in in the right places/order so I am wondering, is this normal noise and am I missing something of the set up to be able to select neutral standing still?

Second. I have been told about the Z25 gear problem and then read about the failure of that here I thought so I am wondering if there is a way to tell whether I have the old or new Z25 gear/shaft? Can anyone tell from the attached pictures what I have?

Thanks in advance

The original "good" Z25 had a smooth mat finish with an alignment arrow around the center hole where it fits on the shaft, but I have read on here that the design changed. Considering you appear to have a very new clutch basket I suspect the Z25 will be new as well. Hopefully someone with a recent Z25 can comment.

As for the neutral problem, they all suffer from this to some extent. The recommended fix it shifting to neutral whilst still moving, which isn't always possible e.g. if you have to stop unexpectedly. I made a hydraulic clutch conversion for mine and as well as a lighter clutch it was also much easier to get neutral when stopped, but I then ruined it by fitting rearsets that gave a much shorter shift action. Lovely on the move but made finding neutral difficult again, though still possible.

Not totally clear but the 3rd picture along appears to show alignment mark on the z25/shaft, (just visible between the teeth of the large gear on the back of the basket)
if so, i think you should be ok. I assume you have no hot start issues which would also suggest everything is aligned correctly. Also again, if you have the beville washer fitted it sounds like it has been put together correctly (just check that it is still tight!)
Getting neutral does indeed seem to vary, on the 900 i basically have to be moving to get it to drop in, which on the CR and the 1130 it goes in ok at a standstill, generally though some fine tuning of the clutch adjustment at the engine end can help.
These bikes are noisy, as Errol states down largely to the lack of sound deadening built into the engine. MyCR 1130 is quieter than the 900, but of course none rattle like the dry clutch in the 1130 Tornado:D

Take a look at Errols webiste on the tornado, massively helpful:D Engenia's Benelli Tornado Novocentro Tre

Nice looking bike by the way!

Thanks for the quick responses, on the advise of a friend I am going to remove the alternator to see what kind of locking on the bolt tab or Breville as he said that will be a good indicator as to what's in there I have reached also reached out to Maniac regarding the parts

thanks again
