Hi Errol

Standard 900 Tre on a 2005 registration (in silver and black)
B3 002531

Had gearbox replaced (under warranty at 3000mls (problem with selecting ANY gear on down change)
Whilst in for service last April, core plugs were replaced as was the clutch basket modification
Fairing lowers replaced under warranty due to flaking paint

Other than the above, I havent had any other issues with her :D (Touch wood !!)

Just need a little more info, if I may

Hey Kurt,
what is your VIN ?
Is your clutch command lever steel ?
Does your alternator drive have a lock washer ?
Have you had your dash replaced ? (at what odometer reading ?)

If these are all done, the known issues are all taken care of :)

I will post my vin when I can find my documents (mislaid them whilst moving house !!)
How do I know if the clutch command lever is steel ? (do you mean the clutch lever??)
How do I kknow if the alternator drive has a lock washer ? (where is the alternator drive)
The dash hasnt been replaced by me - it has only reset once when I let the battery nearly drain flat - that was a year ago (no probs before that nor since)

Sorry if I am not much help - I barely know one end of a spanner from the other (spark plug and oil and filter change is about my limit  )

It's not the clutch lever Kurt, It's the bit that the other end of the clutch cable is attached to.

The original ones were made of an alloy material, as per the first pic (special instructions for Kurt.......i.e. the bit that's circled - with the arrow and the words 'CLUTCH ACTUATING ARM' pointing towards it:rolling: )

The replacement parts are made of steel and are black in colour (as per the coloured pic):-

NOTE:- Scroll down a bit for info. on the lock washer.

To inspect the lock washer you will need to remove the Alternator, which is located just above the Clutch Actuating Arm. Undo the three screws indicated in the following pic and when you remove the alternator the lock washer will be visible.

c'mon Kurt, It's only three bolts man..........even you could do that!!!! ;)

If you're gonna remove the alternator to have a look (easy to do), be careful when you put it back on. The o-ring tends to stretch, and can be difficult to get back in, unless you remove about 10mm from it, and superglue it back together.

Have you had your dash replaced ?
You can tell which version it is by the way the mode switch works. If the mode changes while the switch is still depressed, it's a Rev.A. If the mode changes only on switch release, it's a later Rev., probably Rev.D, the latest.

Well - If you are going to start picking on me :beat:

Then I am gonna throw ma toys out of the pram :smashpc:

Do you have a steel clutch command lever?
Do you have a lock washer on the alternator drive shaft?
Any idea what the odometer reading was on your old dash?
Need the engine number as well.

All good, just need the engine number.

You can check the details out at http://www.mso.anu.edu.au/~ekowald/
and select General / Recalls

Update on my Nelli

My alternator shaft had a 8 mm bolt and not 10 mm as in the replacement.

Reason she would not tick over was all but one of my tappets where to tight.
Now she does not cut out, she ticks over between 1600 and 2000 rpm, so now lost engine braking at speed.

The new slipper clutch has a different feel to the old clutch. Shall collect old clutch next week and post measurements of middle gear.

Kurt mate, when I get over your side of the globe, I'll sort it out for you:p

Now that would be much appreciated

Jeez - the service on this forum is top quality !! :rolling:

I am still in the midst of moving house - so I am not gonna take anything off the bike cos I will lose it for sure - by the end of the month the garage should be in a respectable state for working on the bike - at which time I will print of the instructions in this thread and give it a whirl !!

Thanks again Errol

Hi Errol my middle gear was 8mm thick
Local dealer also changed the clutch springs and little triangle rubber bits thak make a ring,(but in peaces).
Also in the bag of bits is a long thin spring 55mm long and very stiff.

Excellent. Clutch is sorted.

Triangular rubber bits are (I believe) the cush drive for the alternator. Hopefully, when these were changed (shouldn't have needed to, but ..), the dealer also confirmed the presence of a lock washer on that assembly. YES ???

The 55mm spring replaces the timing chain tensioner spring, if yours is shorter than that. It should really be the same as used in the 1130's, which is 75 mm long (I stand corrected lads). At 55mm, you really do need to keep a check on the tensioner depth, just to be sure it's doing its job.

Mine is 54.5mm long. When I changed my timing chain at 25,000km, the spring had 1 mm of movement left! It tends to move 1mm every 5000km, so after 30,000km, Nelli would have been crossing over to the Dark Side.

Thanks Errol,
the parts above are the sizes of the original parts,
I will contact Rusty Russ about what he supplied to my local dealer.
No lock washer was fitted on the original assembly, also the original bolt was 8mm not 10mm so replacement was provided by Russ.

Will look tonight for the location of the steering bolts.

Errol,
Tornado Engine No.003275
TNT Engine No.b33001394
Taken from the Logbooks.
Mileage on the Tornado was about 4000
They tell me that the clutch arm and lockwasher would have been done.
I am still waiting for the Tornado to be delivered back to me from KJM.
Cheers,Zebo:)
