Hi guy's had a good ride up to peebles with a couple of mates and all great till i stopped to fill up, when i restarted her she fired up on 2 cylinders when i rev her she goes on to 3 as long as i keep the revs up everything is good but when i let her idle then increase the revs she splutters on 2 then picks up on to 3 cylinders, am i right in thinking either plugs or coil sticks, cheers. Yes it's a Tre-k 1130.

Sounds like the typical coil stick issue but could be a plug on its way out

This is the way coil sticks fail. If you persist, the stick will break down fully and the engine will be permanently down to two.
I've had two fail in the 13 yrs i've had Nell (maybe three) and that's the way they go.
Replace the one that's failing and get yourself a spare.

For all thats involved in removing the tank Ron, I'd whip it off which will make working on the coil stick that much easier.

The fuel line is 6 mm ID and that's an 8 mm coupler. It will fit if you expand the hose with an 8 mm ball end hex key.
There are 6mm couplers available now that will make the job a lot easier. You can even get metal ones, but they are exxy.
Some have fitted cheap couplers sourced from ebay but they have leaked, so beware.

Right guy's i am all ready to fit the new plugs and coil sticks, when you push the stick over the plug should it "click " in or just fit in, i am used to ordinary plug caps that seem to click over the plug. they are not benelli sticks but everything seems the same ( size etc) also i take it the plug goes in without the small cap, i am asking as when i took 1 out there was just the threaded section showing and i am not sure if the cap was stuck in the stick. cheers

Ron d the berg replacements I had clicked onto the top of the threaded top of the plugs . I would also highly recommend sealing the rubber boots with a suitable sealant so to stop water getting in .

Right new plugs ( iridium ix ) and 3 new coils sticks started first time so just a couple of bits to put back on then take it for a bit of a test ride, only problem i had was refitting the tank got the 2 back bolts in loose but it was too far forward to fit the 2 front bolts what a pig in and out about 5-6 times before i got it to fit i think it was just the cables etc underneath fouling and stopping it going back about 2-3mm.

Hi Guys. My Tre-K went onto 2 cylinders today. It happened suddenly as I was going past a service station in a country town, so I pulled into the servo and topped up with fuel (it as getting pretty low and I thought it might have started to suck air). When I re-started it was still running on two. I was about 18km from a friend's place, so limped there on two cylinders. The right-hand pipe was cooler than the others, so that was the problem cylinder. I let the bike cool down while we had a cup of tea, then re-started it and all was good - back to 3 cyls. So I took off to go the remaining 37km to my place. Got about half way when it dropped onto 2 cyls again, presumably as things warmed up again. Limped the rest of the way home on 2.
Does that sound like a typical failure mode for a coil?
I've only had this bike for a couple of months and this is the first issue I've encountered - apart from the injector light coming on regularly, but I believe that's a common foible with these bikes.

After a bit more browsing of this forum, it seems my injector warning light comingon may have been a related to a possible failing coil. It was on pretty much constantly during today’sride.
I'll delve under the tank tomorrow and see what's going on.
