Hello gentlemen! Let me introduce my self: My name is Giovanni and I am from Pesaro Italia where Benelli is from! I have been reading the forum for quite some years because the Tornado LE, along with the F4 750 by MV Agusta was always my dream bike, but never made an account to post since I never owned one. I did manage to get an F4 750S monoposto though. So long story short I desperately want a Tornado , here are my options: Base spec biposto in green/silver for 5500, 19.000km . I know the owner as I have bought another classic Italian bike from him in the past, he's an enthusiast who takes care of his machines. My other option is my absolute dream: 5.000km Tornado LE, from a dealer, but it would run me back 20 grand. I can't afford to pay 20 straight up, so I would have to give up my F4 in a trade in and pay 10.000euros on top of that. Which is possible for me financially. Huge difference, I know , but I'm still very tempted because I love the L.E. so much... It seems so much more special than the base spec, and the huge biposto tail always seemed to mess up the rear aesthetic of the Tornado for me. Plus all the carbon fiber, the quality, the Ohlins etc. It's a work of art. However it's a lot that I have to give up for it... So if I was to phrase the question differently, it would go like this: Is it better to have a base spec Tornado, an F4 750 and 5.000 change or to have a very special Tornado L.E.? Note that, whatever I end up getting I want to keep hopefully forever and not ride for a little bit and then sell to someone else
What do you guys think? Thank you in advance!

What a dilemma!!!

Here's my take on it. The LE is a great bike and far superior to the standard TRE. It really is a special bike and I was fortunate to have owned two LE's and several standard TRE's.

However, In my humble opinion, 20k is way too much. I would keep the F4 and your cash and wait until a cheaper LE becomes available, then you would have the best of both worlds. You should eventually be able to find an LE for around £10 to £12k tops, however, you may need to look further afield (i.e. the UK) and be prepared to import it back to Italy.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Have a look around for an RS Tornado, No carbon fibre panels but uprated suspension, wheels , adjustable steering damper, bigger brakes and revs like a banshee, you will not be disappointed and keep the MV as well.

If the LE is your absolute dream, then I would be tempted to lose the F4 for now and pick up the LE. It will be much easier to replace the F4 in the future, if of course the Tornado is your preferred of the two.

The LE is a thing of beauty. Like with the F4's there are special ones and standard ones. I have a 1078 F4 and recently an LE. I haven't ridden the LE except around the garden/drive, it is tucked up with the cover on it now for winter!

Either way, you have great taste in bikes ;)

I had the F4SR and the Tornado LE. The F4 is simply a work of art. You will never find a more beautiful or elegant motorcycle on the planet. There is a reason the F4 is the only motorcycle to be in the Guggenheim Museum!!!!! Having said that it was very canted forward so you are un your wrists heavy when riding. If you are putting some serious speed down through those tires it makes for a decent ride. If not, it's a bit more uncomfortable for commuting or longer rides.

The LE is just different. It's hard to put onto words but the quirkiness and individuality found in being the owner of a 1 of 150 example is quite attractive. It's tough to maintain, tough to get parts for, tough to learn the ins and outs on as there are no local clubs nor local dealers but man!!!!! Is that thing dripping with excess!!!!!! I sit and just stare at it sometimes! The green is stunning! The shapes! The ingenuity! Just beautiful!!!!!

You have a great problem to be in the this dilemma about. I wont say what you should do because I don't think there is a bad choice of the two...but I no longer own the F4SR. I own the last LE to be hand made: #150.

Hello mr.Lawrence, sorry for the late reply, I have been a bit busier than usual lately . I would absolutely LOVE to pick up an LE for the price you said , and I would have no problem importing it from the UK, but for the past year the cheapest L.E. I have managed to find was 18.000 euro and it was in the UK. I have noticed that the UK has the cheapest LE's but still they are waaay pricier than some years before. Makes me think I might have hopped on the LE train just a tad bit too late. In Italy the prices are absolutely bonkers, 30k euro minimum.

The RS is nice, especially the rarer yellow one. But the silver and green is iconic, that's why I'm looking at a standard or LE. Similarly when I was shopping for my F4 I wanted strictly a red/silver 750, I like the original iconic looks.

Thank you! You are very lucky for owning an LE . I just might have to end up picking up the standard one because it's hard for me to give up the F4... It's a lovely '99 monoposto, still has CAGIVA written on the frame and documents. It's not that the standard Tornado is bad, it's actually amazing, it's just that the L.E. is so much cooler!! But unfortunately I can't afford to pay 20k on it. I have 10, 12k at most to burn on bikes at the moment. I hope I find an LE at that range other wise I'm picking up a standard one to keep company to the F4 and having some change left on the side . Which is not a bad scenario after all!

Thank you very much for your reply. The F4SR was a beast of a bike. But still, an L.E. is like having a F4 Serie Oro.. But it's hard for me to part with my F4, so I will probably wait until the new year rolls around. If I manage to find an L.E in the 10-12k range (which seems almost impossible the way the used market looks at the moment) I will pull the trigger. If not I'm picking up my friend's base spec Tornado for 5500.
