Hi all...

After more than a month my discussions with Scorpio alarms have hit a dead end (see http://www.benelliforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3988) - although the guy initially claimed they'd make a connector specially for the Benelli if I provided photos and pinouts, they have decided not to come to the party. I provided plenty of info for them but they are totally not interested any more and want me to use their generic connector (which will need a lot of fiddling and cutting of wires). :(

Given their stuff-around I've decided that I'd rather put my money into a different system but I'm not sure what's around.

I've got an enquiry going about the Benelli factory alarm but my understanding is that it doesn't have a perimeter sensor. That is one of the big drawcards for the Scorpio for me because I get nervous parking it in public places. Can anyone recommend a good system with a perimeter sensor that can be relatively easily installed? Or can the factory alarm use a plug-in perimeter sensor?

Thanks!

Hey Buster,

I just installed a scorpio alarm to my bike, not too hard at all. I used the taillight harness and replaced the crappy bullet connectors that Benelli use and changed them to a 6 pin waterproof automotive connector all nicely shrink wrapped, a couple of hours work and a nice neat job at the end of it.
It is a good alarm, don't let the lack of a dedicated alarm harness worry you.

thanks, what model is that for? Not sure how you must have done it - I was going to use the provided anti-theft connector at the front of the bike to make it a plug n play type thing.

I have the 899s, I ran the alarm loom out through the grommet on the LHS of the electrical compartment under the seat(make a small slit, pass the loom through and then seal with silastic) The other wires - bat positive and perimeter sensor loom head out the front towards the battery - perimeter sensor fastened to top of battery. Back to the alrm loom, follow the main harness to the rear light unit(i covered the alarm harness with a special heat proof tubing, identical to the benelli harness because of the exhaust heat) crimp the alarm wires with the main loom wires for the new connector(female) on one side(front) and then do the light unit wires by themselves for the other side of the connector(male). This way you can remove the light unit easily.
About two hours to do a neat and tidy job.

Hm! Thanks for the details, when I get around to removing the bodywork (still a bit scary - I'm a longtime nakedbike owner) I'll see if I can trace the looms as you describe and see if it looks any easier! :rolling: Cheers!

Can i recommend a blanket. quilt or the front room shag pile carpet under your bike when you remove to stop ANY chance of a scratch
