Hi all,
I'm trying to understand why I feel the way I do about the sixes. I only bought my 900 because I prefer its looks to the 750. Perhaps I'm just an Eighties kid at heart - all that matt black, power dressing, bad haircuts and Athena art. The 900 has torque everywhere and no great surge of power like the 750 has when revved hard, people who ride my machine often seem to think there's something wrong with it and perhaps they're right. Its got plenty of poke though, and accelerates deceptively well. The riding position is pants for long distance work but the fairing does something. Fuel economy is good at 45+mpg about 10mpg better than the 750 its also a few pounds lighter. The dry clutch is rubbish and the starer clutch fails without the 750's back up kicker.

Now to me, the 750 looks like an unfinished special... there's something about the wide engine that makes the bike look wasp waisted. Along with the angle of the fuel tank and seat it looks like they come from two separate machines. For some reason it just grates like the way the angular front guard looks too big for the tires and mounted too high. Wire wheels are pretty and the rear drum keeps everything cleaner.

Which lights your passion or do you prefer something older?

Classics ! Oh Yes !

Chris, I love the 750, the exhausts especially look the business matey ! ;) Perhaps you like the 900 more because it blends nicely with your hair, nice gold wheels and lettering !

I think any Classic Benelli would be worth having !

Ta Rob,
Six pipes do make a nice noise but what about removing the rear wheel when ya get a puncture? And there's all that extra weight!

Nothing quite like a twin port single is there? Why are pre war Benellis so rare? You could get 4 Panthers for that price. I blame WWII myself. Which would win in a race?

I know what you mean about sixes Chris , i was brought up with the Honda CBX and Z1300 era and always loved the wide in your face mechanics of it all. Liked your Sei when you let me ride it because it was impressive in terms of impression it left !. maybe owning Classics are the way to go as they can be timeless depending on who's looking at them (i'm mid 40's so love the seventies/eighties metal - big Katana fan)

hi Angus i also love the six`s but i do love the look of those 6 pipes .My biggest passion though is the old 2 strokes ,when i rode my little nelli i was 17 all over again lol and the smell was awesome and its in the best colours too.

I know it's not a Benelli but.............. what the heck !

How about THIS one ! (turn the volume up ! ;) )

a customer of mine had this in his lock up for over 5 year, may have been a lot longer. The head had seized and it was as rusty as F..K ! But my mate Alan, formerly known as my mobile Benelli mechanic, has had a play with it and this video is of the first time he started her up since the rebuild, although still a wee bit of work to do it's looking and sounding pretty good !

Have to say Chris for me, on looks alone, its got to be the 750. However I have not ridden either, and looks aren't everything so the 900 may well be a better bike. Sadly both are pretty pricey so I doubt I will ever have the spare cash for either.

Nice 900 TB but it's the wrong colour !!! You want to have a nice red one like mine. ;)

As much as I like the 900 I do prefer the classic lines of the 750 and those 6 pipes are just marvelous

It is a 'brand spanker' Rob. Still has less than 500 miles from new on her.

Must get a pic with the Titanium on the other side of her. Kinda would balance it up, don't ya think :)

What a waste Laurence, maybe it needs a few more miles putting on her mate, like maybe around May time ! ;)

:rolling:

And yes, a photo of all three bikes in a row would be good, infact, thay might even then qualify for the 2011 Calendar with a good back drop like Edinburgh Castle ! ;)

:D

750vs900 SEI

Well even though I am more into Benelli fours than their sixes I have ridden a 750 and the first impression was what a well ballanced and great sounding bike it was. The next time I actually cocked my leg over one it was a 900 SEI and i unfortunately was on the pillion, we were having a dice with a Buell on the unrestricted and very scary coast road from Castletown to Port Erin in the IOM I was told the indicated speed was aproaching a 130 MPH. We kept up with the Buell by the fact that the Benelli rider was one of the best, coupled with the fact that he just went into the corners much faster than the Buell it was a trip I wont forget and what did I think of the 900 sei turbine smooth, and the ability to corner fast and safely yes it was a better performer than the 750 has you would expect. To sum up the 750 has the classic looks, the 900 a more futeristic look but I would have liked to have seen a more cafe racer look to either of them and the sales would have probably been healthier.

Well Old Man, I have to say I'd have crapped myself as a pillion on that 900 at that speed. Is that 130 special Vaglia miles an hour our is the mile a different length on the Island? :p :p :p . Don't tell anyone the Fours are any good - people might start buying them then the prices will go up boo hoo.

The red 750 is great and that price is lower than what I've seen them go for in Germany. 750 prices are sky high all the same they're not quite in the "can't park them because they will be stolen" category like Brough Superiors, MHRs, Vincents and MV fours but It'll be a sad day when then are.

Rob's quite correct in that I do have a bit of a bike habit and this has led to a bit of a mantra to be applied whenever buying Italian machines.

"Any colour but red"

That said the 750 is definately best in metallic brown like in the US adverts :D :D . Given that as far as I know they never sold any in brown there's the beautiful sludge green or dark blue.

Only Joking... I like the red best too... quickly followed by the green!

750vs900 SEI

:)
Yes I very nearly soiled my pants with that pillion ride and I forgot to mention we had just come down the Ballamoda straight probably even faster. To be honest I think the speed when adjusted (read accurate speedo) would have been a shade over 126 mph very scary on the back. By the way Tornado boy thats a very rare Protar kit you have pictured made in very limited nos and worth over ÂŁ100 00 these days. Well we have seen a lot of nice shiny bike pics of the standard SEI s how about some specials ie Moto Martin 900 SEI and the very tasty unoficial 900 SEI MK 5 Demarter version the very very last of the 900s Ill see if I can dig them out.Its good to see a few classics mentioned

Old Man,
So what version is that lovely machine Lawrence has above then?... it's not a Mk4 Cornetto 900. It's got a MK4 fairing and Mk1/2 paintwork - beats me. There are some pics of those last ones on a German website someplace but I can't find it right now. They were white and looked well odd with a monoshock as I remember.

Spread some facts!
