do a universal set of bobbins with an 8mm threaded rod which fits neatly through the rear axle on the trek.

the only downside is having to undo the nut that holds the bobbins on when you want to adjust the chain but at roughly £14 for 4 bobbins and two rods it's surely better than having no protection on the swing arm.

i'll see if i can upload a piclater

As well as the universal threaded rod variety, Gary at Crashbobbins has developed a made to measure set for the Tornado, using my bike. the problem with the threaded rod is that, because of it's smaller diameter, it does not easily centralise in the axle, and would move easily. The purpose made ones have a larger diameter aluminium rod, into which allen bolts go. These bolts pass through the bobbin, and model-specific sized aluminium 'top-hat' spacers, to locate them perfectly in the axles. That entails 4 different sized spacers, as the axle holes are all different sizes. He machines them up himself, they are beautifully made, and are only a few quid more than the universal kit.
If you look in ebay motorcycle parts and accessories; 4 x Crash Bobbins Yamaha Fazer 1000; that shows the first bespoke one he did, a few years ago, developed on my Fazer, which is the one in the picture in the listing. That has the threaded rod, with the top-hat spacers. He now uses the internally threaded aluminium rod instead.

I will post up a couple of pictures of the Tornado kit in my gallery in a minute, in the 'Introducing Benny#2' folder, and when the bike is back together, I'll post the fitted pics.

Great product, and worth every penny!!

Cheers
Ian

If they were fitted on Benny #1, they would have saved the wheels and the swinging arm

does the tornado have the same fork stanchions as the trek for fitment?

Assuming the tornado set fitted the trek front it won't fit on the rear as it's a different swing arm

and if a kit wasn't available for the trek rear, it is a pretty close fit with the 8mm rod as the hole must only be about 10mm diameter. The slop could be sleeved with a bit of plastic tube or a speedfit plastic 10mm pipe insert, but it's so minimal that i wouldn't bother.

I know what your talking about as i've bought one of the dearer sets and they are well made.

That is the trouble, that the different Benelli models have a variety of different wheels/forks/ swinging arm etc. As you say, on the TreK rear axle, the hole is quite small, whereas, on the Tornado, it is much bigger, and different at each end. It looks as though the front would fit, though.

Conclusion of the thread

Hi to everyone who contributed to this thread!!

I'm new to the forum first post all being well should have the bike next week :)

What was the conclusion with regards to which bobbins/sliders are compatible with the Tre-k as I'm looking to buy some.

Thanks in advance!

Slip,
nice pics.
what a handsome looking piece of engineering!
that protector looks as big as the concentric axle-adjuster, does it have to be that large?
Cheers.

If that can be used for padocck stand. I put a rubber in the contact zone of the padocck st. Now I have not installed. I think the same thing PILGRIM, the concentric axle-adjuster should be seen free, is the most original of the bike

Carbon-fibre and Titanium

Alex.
If the protective bobbins need to be large enough to wear-away and still give the necessary protection, couldn't they be smaller and made of a tougher material?
Also, how much weight does it add to the sprung weight of the front and rear wheels?
In a perfect world, should they be made from Carbon-fibre and Titanium?
Cheers.:D
