Lanyu,
You have different mirrors to the ones on my 1130, rounder ends. Have the mirror stems rusted too?
Not as far as I know I haven't lifted the rubber up to have a look though the mirrors on the 899 are better as you can actually see behind with them;)

My 899 had had the mods done but I do keep getting popping which may be linked to the cat or exhaust which is why I want it gone.

Got it!!!

Bit eventful but got it home and spent a day or so putting things right including the broken numberplate holder (one of the brackets was snapped and plate was wobbling around and would have broken off after a few miles) - whoever fitted the numberplate drilled through the plastic!

Was pleasantly surprised to see black wheels!

Does it live up to your expectations?

Wheels are interesting. They reserve the right to change things without prior notice.

It's getting to the point where we need an 899 meet up!

Nice one strada hope you have hours of fun mate. Ye those black wheels are different to mine and what tyres are those. Whats the vin number if you dnt mind.
Regards
Mitch
ps. thought you were getting a black and white one.
Rather note quote the VIN number on the forum so which is the important bit?

I was only going for white if it was to the new spec but they aren't available.

Glad I went black now as it has the satin black wheels.

First impressions were clouded by numerous faults and it took a nasty knock whilst someone was putting it in the van :bawl: It was throttled in and the traction pushed the ramp back and the underside smacked onto the van ledge

Anyway, spent a couple of hours cleaning it as it wasn't that good when I got it then took it for a couple of 20/30 mile spins and first impressions are that it's the best bike I've ever jumped onto and that's even compared to my Ducati MS1200. I have to wait and see about the power comparison until it's run in.
Bike wasn't derestricted as promised either so that's a job for the first service.

I think the bike needs a lot of setting up as I had a very scarey moment when I entered a 50mph bend which was a bit uneven and the bike swapped ends a few times - almost like I ridden onto a bad oil patch
The suspension is quite stiff even on it's softest setting but the tyre tread is quite flexible so hope that improves once things have bedded in.

Riding position and ergonomics are superb but the screen doesn't do a lot so that will be fixed.

Very happy so far and the niggly teething troubles are slipping from my mind but shame I'll now have to take it the 330 mile round trip to get it derestricted, oh well.

I was suprised that they were going to do the mods for you to take it away most people have it done optionally at the first service run the bike in first it will give you something to look forward to ;)

I think during break in it fuel like water mine has continued to get better although the tank I'm currently on seems to have gone quicker than I expected.

Ignore the fuel gauge even when all bars are completely gone visually inspect it I get about 170 to a tank thanks to Engenia and Ferret.

I don't know much about those tyres but I don't like the look of them I guess like the dunlop's they need to be warm to perform. I had some scary moments.

I've just removed the cat myself saved ÂŁ133 for the time being end can next.

Sorry to hear about day 1 damage why didn't you ride it back

Tyres are Dunlop D270 and the blocks are quite soft so don't expect them to last very long!

Had to hire a van as the transport system in this country is rubbish. Would have taken over 6 hours on Buses and trains and I'd still need 2 taxi rides!

The Dunlop D270 were standard equipment on the 1130 when I bought mine
(maybe why you have black wheels!) and they are rubbish. Change them for Roadsmarts as soon as you can and the difference in corner confidence will amaze you..

Mystery solved about the butt-clenching moment on a very slightly bumpy corner yesterday.........................

Went out for another spin tonight and the tyres still didn't feel like they were biting into the corners so checked tyre pressures.

Rear was 50psi and front was 45 - not happy, this is basic stuff for a PDI
Should be 34 & 32.
I was nearly down the road yesterday so will be having another word.

Hopefully after the cellebrations next month the new owners might say something about future production ? Last time I heard production was down to 1000 bikes a year. Get one while the price is right .

Tell me what needs doing to de-restrict the 899?

I changed my order from a 1130 due to the cracked frame concerns. Russ at bennetts was going to de-restrict the 1130 by removing cat, removing a restrictor etc but said the 899 doesn't need anything doing to it.

:ele:

Mine had the intake flaps removed (stepper motor operated), intake duct removed, exhaust valve cable removed and valve wired open, new ECU map.

I have also just removed the motor assembly on the back of the engine (not sure if it's for the exhaust or intake valves). I think it was left on because it has a small extension to hold the idle screw but have clipped it to the coolant hose.

Next step for me is to get a decat pipe then new exhaust 'can plus an updated map.

Anyone know what is the max rpm of the 899?

The redline is shown as 9500rpm but makes peak power at 10k, so presume it's the same clocks as the 1130, who's power is made at 9k.

I've been opening the bike up now it has over 1k on the clock and haven't found the engine cut-out yet, despite going up to 10.5(ish)k.

I'm finding that you really need to work the 899 quite hard to keep it on the boil. Full throttle on the flat doing about 80-90 gives negligable acceleration!
Maybe all the derestriction mods have robbed all the mid range?

fuel sensitivity

Just completed 1000 or so miles on my new 899. I have to say its a culture shock after my CBR600. Good points are brakes, handling, g/box, ease of riding, but not sure about the 3000-3800 rpm engine vibration band, exhaust sound or solid suspension. Daughter thought it was a 2-stroke twin - yes, what would she know. It's now starting first or second attempt, ticks over perfectly, seems solidly built. Can't zero the trip miles yet despite following the book.

Main reason for the post is that I have found the engine to be super-sensitive to fuel quality. Two fill-ups at a garage near Barnsley convinced me that the rough running, uneven tickover at the time, weird exhaust noise and mid-range hunting was a fuel issue from this garage. Fill-ups at other garages returned the bike to its normal healthy routine. I know from working in the fuel industry that the compulsory ethanol dosing into petrol can be anywhere from 4-8% and the more ethanol the rougher they run. Never noticed it before on any other car or bike owned. Solution - use a garage that suits the bike; could this be why re-maps are so popular?
