Question

Good morning,

I am very interested in your experiences with the discs after a view months. Are there still working without any problems? How many km/miles you did with the discs? I would apreciate some info. Thanks

Markus :)

Hi, I've done 5000km on these China-wave and with mixed feelings. Funny you ask because I was going to ask this myself today:rolleyes:
It took a very long time to bed them in, they wobbled hevily for the first 3000 km and are much better now but still wobbling mostly in slow speed. I mounted mine at Alex in June ( new pads aswell ) and hit the alps in Italy right away. And they scared the shit out of me a couple of times:doh: I blocked the front twice ( one finger ) while trying to avoid a crash with a car in a roundabout near Lake Guarda ( 70-80 kmh ) . The bite was so hard that the rear end lifted and it was a miracle that I managed to get out in one piece:doh:
Smashed into the rails though - that's another story ( all good :) )
While I was driving in the high mountains in the alps they were all good, also with spirited driving as long as you can use one finger and portion with full control.

But my maine concern is in panic-mode, they block the front tire alot faster than the original Brembos. I've blocked 4 times in different speeds:doh:

I have done about 1500 miles with my ones now, all fast road riding including many runs over the Mountain at the T.T.
I am very pleased with them, they stop much better than the O.E. & look great, they are a bit juddery at low speed but that get less with each ride out. I fitted HH pads with mine & I know that they take an age too bed in. All in all I am well pleased :D :D :D :D

Thank you for your reply. So the discs are still wobbling after 5000k? Which kind of pads have you fit? If you did it with Alex I suggest they are from Brembo. Are they sinter-pads?
That what you have is a one-finger brake. This is what most people would like to have, but you are right, that this may causes some troubles in panic-mode.
And what is your result? Would you did it again?

Thank´s
Markus

Yes, still wobbling at slow speed and thats a bit worrying... I dont know what pads Alex mounted but I trust him to choose the best, so sinter- brembos would be my guess as well.
Next time I will cash out for a more well known brand, which is thicker and last longer.
Alex suggested that a solution to the wobbling could be to grind out the sharp edges on the disc.

All in all - look fantastic, bites like hell - but for a peace of mind I would spend some extra dosh for a high end brand.

To be fair, i haven't done a huge amount of road miles on mine, but have done 4 full-on track days, when I really was testing out my braking. I fitted Brembo SC pads and dot 5.1 fluid at the same time, and the braking is awesome! I use 2 fingers (oo err missus:eek: ) and find them very controllable, with massive feedback. They are so good that when I rode my Fazer 1000 afterwards, I had to check the brakes over to see if there is anything wrong with them, the Benelli being so good by comparison! The Yam uses R1 brakes, which are not renowned for being weak....

No problems with run-out, and I know it is stating the obvious, but it is so easy to fit discs incorrectly, by not cleaning up the mateing surfaces meticulously before fitting, and progressively tightening the bolts in correct sequence to ensure they run true.

I would buy them again; maybe for my Fazer!;)

Cheers:D

The discs have a thickness of 5mm, haven´t they? Then you could only think about the 5,5mm Inox discs from brembo?! What do you suggest about the lasting of the discs?

Sharp edges of the discs?? Normaly during a longer time of use the pads possibly get edges? What exactly do you mean? (sorry for questioning :))

Yes, back to the original thickness, don' get me wrong - the discs bites very good and on track or fast riding roads they behave very controlled, but the wobbling and the fact that they seem to last shorter than the more expensive ones makes me choose something else when mine are worned out. I think they will last 8000km with semi- hard riding.

It could be that I got one pair that is uneven and the other ones are good..? , but in my head you often get what you pay for and for that price it's a bargain:clap:

But again - next time I will choose a more solid construction.
