I picked up a very early 72 250 2C. This still has points (Had).
It was a one owner bike, and I think parked due to a damaged kickstart shaft. Price was good, although since it was some 2000 miles away (3,200 kilometers) it cost me more to get it here than it did to buy. L.A. Nik helped a bunch with me getting it.

it is in quite good condition, first thing I did was take out the engine, since the cases need to be split to replace the shaft. I found the capacitors for the original points ignition were blown and completely corroded. I had forgotten the early ones were points, and I am over points. So I ordered a Vape system (I installed one on my 175 enduro and it worked great). Made the order tuesday, got it Friday! From Czech Republic to the States.
I will leave the battery out, since when I tested the horn worked great. This bike does have turn signals fitted (Perhaps from the importer) but I think with proper flasher it will work just fine- time will tell. No battery on a bike that just gets used occasionally will be a big bonus. Plus it will be 12Vdc rather than a mix if 6Vac and dc.

I found a NOS shaft cheap, replacing all the bearings except the inner crank- those feel really good so rather than press the crank apart I will go with it as is. From appearances, the machine was taken care of pretty well and the engine looks great. One piston looks like new, the other shows some wear - perhaps a clogged jett on one side and it got hot?

I am reassembling now- I mistakenly ordered the incorrect shift shaft seal, so waiting on that to complete. Oh yeah, the shift shaft was bent, so I cut it off to remove and installed a NOS one I got.

I got one in when I was a dealer in the 70s and rode it until I sold it. I should have gotten another for me- I really liked it. I think will be a fun addition to all my Benellis.

bike is all together now. I’ve had it out for a few rides and it runs great, brakes are fantastic and handles wonderfully.
I still have a few little things to do of course, but I’m quite happy with how it turned out. Still breaking in the new piston/rings.
I forgot to take some pictures when I was out riding.

From a suggestion, I took off the original throttle with splitter setup and put on a twin throttle Tomeselli, making up two new Venhill cables. The throttle is much easier and smoother now.
I had a new cable for something I didn’t even know what it was, so I soldered on a new end and fixed the ‘upper’ enrichener cable. So now the handlebar control works making cold starts a lot easier (I was pulling one cable up, since it would not start cold without it).

I got one new muffler, still looking for a new right side if anyone comes across one. I will work on getting the old ones spotless and see if anyone around will re-chrome them.

I am still breaking it in, but quite enjoying the bike so far.
