It was 80f and clear out today, so I uncovered my 302s to take it for a spin, and there was a rat that jumped down and sauntered away. sigh
I whipped out the garden hose and gave the motorcycle a quick rinse off. It was dirty and filled with leaves. Yeech.
After it was dried off, I tried to start it and got nothing. Console came on, lifted the kickstand and the fuel pump ran, but the starter relay never clicked.
So I charged the battery, nothing. Continuity check on the kickstand - good. Took apart the right hand grip and did continuity checks on the kill switch and starter switch. Both work.
Back at the starter relay, it's got a good 12v from the battery, but it never clicks when the start button is pushed.
It was about this time, while picking out ever more leaves from under the fairing and tank, that I noticed ANOTHER rat, sleeping in it's nest inside the frame on top of the engine, just fore of the air box. I continued to pull out leaves and sticks with pliers, and poof, he vanished. I never saw him run or heard him scrabble away. So now I'm wondering if he's living in the airbox.
Soooooo, the tank needs to come off for inspection and cleaning.
And the airbox.
I'm hoping it's just a coincidence that the starter relay is dead, and there's no chewed wires.
So back to the tank removal; I see this weird looking connector on the fuel line. If I get that to release, is fuel going everywhere? Stupid tank is more or less full of course.
Alternately, is there such a thing as a fuel line clamp? I could just clamp it and cut it in half.
I ordered a starter relay from Aliexpress. So My immediate concern is getting the motorcycle apart and cleaned. I assume a rodent family nest getting sucked though an engine would be bad.
