Apparently development is slowed down due to higher priorities within the factory with the 750 and 600 Due Twin and the BX series bikes according to Motorcycle USa's euro gossip section for December, we should see a pre poduction bike around 2010

Tooling up for such a bike is a big investment and the demo bike needs to wow the crowds using more than just its front end.

Benelli wont be able to compete with CBR6s on price so they need to make sure that the bike is better than a CBR in some other way than just the handling. If they do the bike properly and make it 15Kg lighter than a CBR (the FFE should allow this), and use top spec parts as they did for the Tre, then the extra premium for low production numbers may pay off.

The last thing you want is a GTS1000, overpriced and overweight. Why should people fork [sic] out on the extra when they can save some cash and have a normal one that is almost as good.

The problem with FFEs is they are like Marmite. You seam to get a bell curve of views. At one end is the fanatical crowd that get almost spiritual that they arent on the front of every bike. Unfortunately these have workshop projects of there own going on and have little money to spend. At the other end you get the Saterday racers who loath FFEs because they arent the fashion statement gold TiN coated shineyness they know and love. These types do have money to spend, but it tends to go on 2-3 year old rocket ships and bling for them. Then there are the normal people in between who are curious but cautious. Most would fancy a ride on one and would contemplate buying one if it was on a level playing field with the other bikes in its class. Fortunately it seams there are more normal people than the other two groups put together.
