I have a 1977 Benelli 750 SEI. Here in Canada I have only ever seen one other one and it has the same front forks as mine. I also have a complete spare set of forks, and a new pair of fork bottoms. They are identical to the ones on my motorcycle. I understand there were two different forks used? What where they and how do I identify which type I have? Photo attached. Thanks!

For anyone interested: I went to the Benelli Bauer website and there are two parts drawings for 750 SEI forks. The earlier version (drawing 16) is a more traditional style fork. Very similar to my Honda cb750K bike’s. Drawing 16A shows the later “Series 2” forks that are fitted to my ‘77. I believe they are Marzocchi. In addition to the usual spring and sliding tube, there is a sealed, cartridge style “shock absorber” in the top half . Today I took it apart and laid out all the parts.

I have a new pair of fork lowers, so I am ordering a bunch of parts, seals, and a pair of the internal shocks. They appear to be designed to control fork rebound. When finished, I’ll have a nice, fresh set of forks for the Spring. Anyone interested in photos of the internals, just let me know and I’ll post as I go along with the build.

The forks you have are Benelli / Moto Guzzi own and fitted to many Benelli’s the early forks are Marzzochi !

The forks look to be the same as those on the Moto Guzzi 850 T3, SP1000, Le Mans etc....

Replacing the factory cartridge damper with new FAC units (MG Cycle has them) and new matching Progressive springs will go a log way to improving the ride. There are slight differences between the fork tubes Guzzi used, if you measure the tube length, ID and OD the guys at MG Cycle should be able to help.

I think DeTomasso robbed the Guzzi parts bins on more than one occasion.

The Sei fork parts diagram looks like 850 T3, same headlight ears and rubber spacers

The Benelli switch gear is common to the Moto Guzzi 76 ~ 78 Le Mans and 1000 Convert.

The font wheel with the disc carriers look just like Guzzi 850 T3 but Guzzi runs the speedo off the transmission

Same Brembo calipers and discs steel lines, splitter, rubber bits.

I think the instruments (other than the shroud) are common to period Guzzi models.

Signal light Aprilia, used on the Guzzi 750S and 750S3,

Headlight and Tail light are common CV- Guzzi 850 T3and many others.

Diode board, regulator, starter solenoid, alternator, flasher and rubber holder, (Bosch) ignition switch (CEV) are common to Guzzi - Euroelectric sells the Bosch parts for cheap, all the rubber bits I get from HMB Guzzi in Germany
