Was about to put my clutch back together when I absently rotated the thrust bearing, only to discover a notch in it. It has done over 50,000 km, so I suppose it's not too bad, especially since it's a standard (6003) BALL RACE!
Chances are real high, that whenever it needed to spin, it didn't. So the adjuster shaft would have spun inside the gearbox primary shaft, which is brass lined, so I guess it's ok.

$10 later, & judicious application of a 10 tonne press, has solved the problem.

Beats me why they didn't use a thrust bearing as the thrust bearing. I think some Italian engineer had run out of ideas when he got to that bit.

I am bumping this ancient thread to discover if a better bearing has been suggested as I have the same problem on a 3000 mile tornado.
