Fading tornado TNT and trek LCD dash display

So my TNT Sport Evo has the fading and missing letters and numerals on the LCD screen. I have sent the dash off the vectriq Australia who in turn are sending it to carno their parent company's HQ in Holland for repairs. they have fixed TNT 899 dashboards before but they are made by a company in Asia. The dash in the first triples are made by facomsa in Spain but I suspect they also make Dash's for other bikes manufacturers. I think this may the first time they have done repairs on the earlier triple models. I'll let everyone know how the repairs go.

PS. They list hundreds of bikes they have previously repaired dash and ecu's so try them before buying new or secondhand parts.

@twothree Well done! Bog standard npn & pnp BJTs.
Where did you find that document? I need a copy.
Hope it makes sence😯

That is gold. Thank you
Hope you can make sense of it and if you think I may be wrong please let me know
BC847B and BC857B make perfect sense .... without tracing out the circuit, which I think you should do to be sure.
I finally managed to get the glued-on dial needles off. I took it to a watch/clock repairer to see if he had a puller for that sort of thing. He did, but it didn't fit the Benelli dials. I ended up looping some thin, strong nylon thread under the needles on both sides of the shaft (under the toe and heel if that makes sense) to get a straight and even pull, and then pulled very hard. They eventually gave up the struggle and came off. It took a lot of force to break the apparent superglue joint that held them on, but it doesn't seem to have damaged the bearings in the little stepper motors.

The circuit board is a little different to the one Errol posted a picture of. The conductors are sandwiched between layers of the board, so it's not so easy to trace them and put meter probes on to check for continuity. Looking at the solder joints where the LCD display connects to the board, all of the joints look a bit sketchy to me. They certainly didn't go overboard with the solder. If I was any good at soldering fine stuff like that, I'd go over them all with a bit more solder. I don't think my big clunky soldering iron is the tool for the job. I'll see if I can find some computer nerd who's good at that sort of thing.

I sent an enquiry to Vectriq a couple of weeks ago but didn't get a response. If re-soldering doesn't work, I might try phoning them.

Hi Cam, I could get my son to have a look at this. He is with CSIRO as an electronics engineer. Currently he is on the Investigator in the Southern Ocean, but should be back in the next couple of weeks.

@Sprocket Take a much higher resolution photo & email it to me. I'll have a closer look at the joints. This pic is too pixelated
Hey Nigel. Thanks for the offer of your son's labour. If I can't get something sorted in a couple of weeks, I might get back to you on that.

Errol - photos sent. Dunno whether they'll be high enough resolution though. I only have an old phone camera. Actually, I still have my old Pentax film camera with macro lens attachment, but I dunno if anybody still sells or processes films these days.
