Hi all,

Even if I read you for a long time, this is my 1st message on this forum.
First of all, sorry for my poor english, but I'm French ...

I'm trying to find a GPS mount that fits on the 900 Tornado.
I found this picture on bikepics : http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/570050/
This picture has been posted by Laurence White, who seems to be a (very) active contibutor of this forum.

So I would like to know if Laurence (or anybody else) has aready installed a GPS mount on the 900 TRE ? and which one ?

I alread had a look to the following websites but I didn't yet found something that fits very well :
http://www.techmounts.com/index.php
http://www.ram-mount.com/

Thanks,

Fred.

Hi Fred, welcome to the Forum!!!

Do you want to find a mount to use with an existing Sat-nav or are you considering buying a new GPS?

The one that is fitted to my Tornado in the picture is a Mitac Mio 269:-
http://www.mio-tech.be/en/gps-navigation-device-Mio-269-plus-overview.htm

There a few more pics of it in my Gallery:-http://www.benelliforum.com/gallery/laurencewhite

This model is no longer manufactured but it was supplied with a mount for a bicycle handlebar which happens to be the same diameter as the steering damper :) The newer models which replace the 269 don't all come with the bicycle mounts but I believe the C710 does:-

If you are considering a new GPS unit there are a couple that are now made specifically for motorcycles, ie they are waterproof, can be operated with gloved hands and come with a different type of attachment to suit a bolt on arrangement rather than the stick-on the windscreen type.

Have a look at the Tom Tom Rider:- http://www.tomtom.com/products/category.php?ID=1&Language=1

or the Garmin Motorcycle range:-
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=135

P.S. If you look hard enough, I'm sure there must be more out there.....:rolling:

Just to throw in my tupancy worth !

I have a Tomtom one and wanted to use it when out on the bike on occasion - so I found an aluminium case / housing for it and have mounted it on the top yoke
The case / housing was £ 10 from an ebay seller - he does them in different colours too
Some on ebay at the moment=
this one
or this one
there are others on there I am sure- but if you are after a cheap satnav (the tomtom one is around £150 now) and a simple but effective way of having it displayed on the bike then look no further - but if you want something a bit more 'hi-tech' then stick with the great Mr Lawrence White's advice

I know the pic doesnt show it very well - but I hope you get the general idea of where it fits and how it mounts
(Ignore the guy 'faffing' around in the bike - that was nothing to do with the satnav)

Thanks for your answers.

I already have a GPS : HTC P33OO, actually it is a pda phone with an embedded sirf III gps chip.
I also found a mount that fits on the steering damper, but I was afraid the steering damper could break if I put the GPS on it.
Laurence, have you rode for a long time with your GPS on the steering damper ?

KurtP, the box you bought looks very nice, I will try to find something similar for my GPS.

I just realized that I introduced myself, but I forgot to introduce my bike, here it is :

The bracket fits on the steering damper OK Fred and I have travelled 100's of miles with it no problem (140 mph+). The bracket for the Mio looks exactly the same as the one in your pics so you should find that it'll work fine.

Nice pic of your bike by the way

Kurt, what's that piece of rubbish you have stuck onto the front your tank :rolling:

Me thinks you could be doing with one of these :)

better watch out putting electronic devices on a bike which are not meant to be used on bikes. The vibrations could cause your device to break down!

Well Mr White - I stuck that on as soon as I got my Nelli (which was about 6 months or so before I discovered this forum) thats my excuse and I am sticking to it !!!!!!!!!

.............But........

Then again.........................

I have got oodles of carbon dripping off my bike now - I think I could be tempted - maybe.......possibly....................... :p

Some GPS devices have bicycle mounts as accessories. They fit perfectly on steering damper, and are also isolated from vibration. I did this (Magellan Sportrack) and so far (8K+km) no problems either on the damper or GPS.

For larger models, I'd recommend to attach a boat cradle (revolving) on the steering bolt/yoke (had it on there on my Mille for 30k+km with self-adhesive double sided tape and cable ties across the foot).
