Dear Leoncino 800 owners,

Has anyone noticed a parasitic draw on your bike? My bike since new has a tendency of the battery running weak if not ridden over a week. A couple of hours on the battery charger and it cranks the engine perfectly. I hv checked the amperage draw using a multimeter and it shows a steady 8mA draw a couple of minutes after switching off the ignition. Hv tried pulling out the fuses and gathered it is the ECU. I hv now resorted to installing a battery disconnector and the battery retains its juice....
In follow up to my earlier post regarding a perpetual parasitic drain on my bike, after several attempts to back probe the problem, I was able to identify the source: it's the B BOX unit hidden under the right cowling under the seat. This unit was introduced by Benelli on select Euro5 models to offer connectivity to the myBenelli app and keep a track of trips etc. I assume it has a GPS transmitter which continously draws power from the battery and also keeps the ECU awake. I was observing a 40 to 80mA draw which immediately fell to 0.6mA the moment I unplugged the B Box and this I checked multiple times to ensure it was the culprit. Hv removed the unit from my bike as it was of no use to me anyways since the myBenelli app does not work in Pakistan.

Is it possible to get the hold of old airfilter? I need dimensions for getting the one made customly here in Pakistan
27cm x 9.5cm x 1cm. These are the dimensions of the filter's borders that snug into a channel inside the air box. There is a soft foam lining around the filter's perimeter which is excluded on the above measurements. Hope this helps.

Thank you . I measured it myself as well. But not to take the risk I ordered it via aliexpress

Hello everybody, I have a Leoncino 800 and had a problem with it under warranty, ran terribly, had problems idling, revs seemed to bounce from 1500-2000 when idling, really harsh riding and surging and terrible jerking in transition from off throttle to on throttle. Warranty didnt find the problem, replaced ecu and throttle body, now bike runs well, but fuel consumption is 7.5l/100km or about 13.3km/l. Riding 50% city with a mixture of 50% 90kmh twisties, two up, sedate riding because of passenger. I think that fuel consumption is insane, also highway riding 80% 100-110 and 30% 90kmh highway used 6.5l/100km or about 15km/l. Calculated at the pump from full to full.

Any ideas?

Sorry to hear about your troubles. The high fuel consumption certainly seems to be due to rich fuel mixture. I would suggest you check the following:

1. Double check that the ECU you have replaced is mapped correctly. This will require a diagnostic check at a workshop.
2. Check the spark plugs for black deposits indicative of a rich fuel mixture.
3. Check the air cleaner / filter. It should not be dirty.
4. Check the oxygen sensors. Bad sensors can mislead the ECU and screw up the fuel consumption.

Poor idling is usually caused by a sticking idle speed control valve or an air leak in the throttle body. It should not have required a complete change of the ECU and the throttle body. Anyways, I would suggest you please go through the above check list and let us know what you find.

Good luck.

@Smash - were you able to identify the root cause and fix the problem? Kindly advise as others suffering from similar issues can learn from your experience.
Thanks

Morning!
Didnt actually identity the issue, problem was fixed with replacing the lot. Consumption on a 350km trip on twisty and terrible mountain roads was 6.5l/100km going there 1 up driving medium fast, 5.5l/100km coming back 2 up, riding also medium fast... I cannot figure this out 🤦‍♂️😂

Btw do you guys know where I can get some luggage for my bike? Everything in my country or online is crazy expensive 100€ for the top box MOUNT + top box 🤦‍♂️ also more in interested in tank bags.

Glad to know yr bike has been fixed. You hv mentioned the "lot" was replaced. Can u please elaborate what you mean be "lot"?

Regarding your experience with the consumption, it was probably better on the return trip as it might hv been mostly downhill riding...

Service replaced the throttle body and the ecu. In doing so they kinked the throttle cable somewhere along the line and noow it's just a little but too short, during full lock cable is stretched tight but so far it's just an annoyance, not a problem.

Installed these grab rails sourced from Ali Express. These will provide me an anchor point to tie luggage on the rear seat and also help in moving around or lifting the bike. The brakcet holding the exhaust had to be shortened slightly to accommodate the thickness of the mounting plate.

I got all the stuff from Ali Express. If you can scroll above on this thread, you will notice I have the following add ons:

Engine crash guards
Runway Gold ADV4 flood lights
Front mud guard extension
Rear 1/2 mud guard
Radiator protection grill
Grab rails
Tail carrier (now replaced by the grab rails)
I also hv shorty levers and foam handle bar grip covers (like grip puppies) that help eliminate numb hands on extra long rides
Mesh seat cover.

Got the crash bars from Ali Express
Hello,

I've just seen your posts regarding the Benelli Leoncino 800 trail. Thank you so much for making available so much information! As you did earlier in 2022, I've been also looking for some forum or people to share experiences with this bike.

I wanted to kindly ask you about the protection bars. I saw you purchased from AliExpress. Could you kindly share with me a link for them? I've been searching but I saw that now there are different models and I'm unsure whether they fit the model or not. Also, could you send me some in detail pictures to see where is the metal bars attached to the bike? I'm a bit worry it will make the driving uncomfortable as it may reach my knee while driving?

Thank you very very much in advance

Bests,

Bests,
Thank you for your words of appreciation. I have tried to share my experiences and mods on the bike for others' benefits since not much info is available on the forums for these models.

I am sharing below the Ali Express link where you can order the crash bars.

I just found this on AliExpress:
PKR30,925 | For Benelli Leoncino800 BJ800 Motorcycle Engine Guard Crash Bar Bumper Left Right Fairing Frame Protector Bar Accessories

The finish and fitment of these bars is not comparable to brands like GIVI, SWmotec etc but these serve the purpose. I hv laid down my bike a few times and also once hit into a car and these bars saved my knee and were bent back to their original shape with some effort.

You will hv to remove the original engine mounting bolts and use the ones provided by the seller to mount these to yr bike's frame. The mounting on the bike's left hand side near the front is the trickiest as u will hv to remove a mounting tensioner used by the factory and instead use a spacer provided by the seller to secure the bars.

The design of the bars does not interfere with the rider's knees. I have a 32 inch inseam and can comfortably sit on the bike as you can see below. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your quick reply! The information shared on this forum is incredibly valuable, especially since there isn’t much available for this model. As you mentioned, there aren’t many accessories or spare parts either, which makes advice like yours even more appreciated.

I was wondering if you think the PUIG engine protectors might be a better option. I’ve read that in the event of a significant fall, they can potentially twist or damage the bike’s general mounting structure. Do you have any thoughts or experience with this? I dropped my bike yesterday—thankfully, it only suffered a few scratches—but I want to find a solution to minimize any future damage.

If it’s not too much trouble, could you please send a front photo of your bike with the metal bars installed and a close-up of the mounting on the left-hand side, especially the spacer provided by the seller? That would be incredibly helpful, and I’d really appreciate it!

Thank you again for your time and help! :)

PUIG engine protectors will help you to preserve the bike's original design aesthetics. They will protect in case the bike tips over at a very slow speed. Usually protectors hv a sacrifical puck which helps to abdorb the impact but then the entire impact will be on one point on the trellis frame. Crash bars usually get mounted on multiple points hence distributing the impact. Moreover crash bars I feel hv more to sacrifice before they start impacting the frame.

I am sharing below pictures showing the mounting points of the crash bars I hv from Ali Express. I could not get my phone camera behind the frame on the left side to show how the spacer works. If I can recall correctly, I had to cut the spacer into 2 parts (one that came along with the bars) and use 1 piece on each side of the trellis frame to make up for the spacing provided by the fcty fitting.

The crash bars provide more utility to me as I hv also mounted auxiliary lights on them and the skid plate I got fabricated locally.

One thing worth mentioning here is that the mounting points on the bike's trellis are frame are not symmetrical on both sides. The PUIG protectors won't look symmetrical when viewed from the front as the one of the left side will appear lower and slightly behind ( closer to the rider) the one on the right side. The same is true for the brash bars which are visually asymmetrical. See last picture.

Thank you so much Rehan_pk! I think I will choose the crash bars rather than the Puig protectors. I have now also seen that you mounted a skid plate, lovely! Is there any social media where you upload photos of your trips etc? I would gladly follow!

Good! Do share pics of yr Leo and yr experience with the bike. I am not very active on social media. You can though find me on FB as "Rehan Sardar". You should also hv a look at the FB page "Benelli Leonciono 800 Trail".

Happy riding!
