Hi,

I’ve recently bought a complete, but very sad,1972 Benelli 125 Sport Special recently imported into the UK. My plan is to get it roadworthy and ride it a bit before worrying too much about the cosmetics.

As I said it’s complete, the engine kicks over and has oil in it. There is some evidence that it has had a small prang which among other things broke the gear change shaft .... perhaps why it was laid up? I’ve sourced a replacement from Benelli Bauer and have the manual so know what to do, in theory at least.

My issues are really more electrical(!) The bike has a pull out switch on the top of the headlight ... is this the light switch or the ignition? I ask because I’ve see them referred to as ignition but my bike has an ignition switch on the front of the left side panel. Is this second switch likely to be a non original, later addition?

No doubt I’ll be asking many other questions as the restoration progresses and I’m grateful for any help.

Regards

I think the key on the headlight is the original ignition switch, it may have had the other switch added later . Try kicking it over with the plug out to see if it sparks with the keys in various positions. This will help understand how it works.
good luck
