Just removed the rings from # 1 piston, and then tried to re-assemble the oil control rings as per the manual. It's a tad hard to do!

The manual says that the spacer must overlap - see pic below from pg 145 of the workshop manual.

Then had a look at how the existing rings are assembled on #'s 2&3 - exactly the wrong way as far as the manual is concerned! See the pic below right.

I'm thinking the manual is arse-about-face ?

No, they butt together. I thought butt is correct,but I also checked to confirm this on the www.
There are some faults in the manual, prob due to translation error, so if not sure about anything it is always worth a post on here.

Can remember the last 4 stroke engine i dismembered nevermind the oil rings so i can't coment on that. Suppose there all different
