A mate of mine is after some much cheapness tyre warmers ready for his first race season, :ele:

anyone know the best place other than the fleabay?

also any Pro's & Con's to tyre warmers would be most grateful, ie whether there are shit ones & good ones etc (although I dare say it's down to what you pay I guess  )

Anyone?

In my experience the biggest problem with tyre warmers is breaking the wiring when either storing them or taking them off the wheel .. or letting them overheat by not having enough clearance from the ground when they are on. None of things are an issue if you take care .. although mistakes happen usually if you are trying to do everything yourself and in a blind panic having heard the final call and are still putting your leathers on ...

Never used expensive warmers and the ones I currently have cost about ÂŁ100and are on their third season. Wouldn't have thought the more sophisticated versions would be worth it for a normal club racer but perhaps someone on here will know better? Can't remember what make mine are but will check later and let you know.

I have been borrowing a mates Diamond warmers and they seem to do the job... In fact still have them as he seems to have forgotten :)
note do not leave them plugged in when not on the tyres!! Else will start to smoulder. Using 190/55 rear they don't seem to cover the last inch despite stretching so ensure get adequate size. Also don't use cheapo 4-way or extension reel as they do draw quite a bit. Remember to take a reel as might not be near plug in garage.

What series / class Rob?

Not 100% sure Lee, all I know is he's racing at Darley Moor Circuit with his first race on Mothers day, Sunday 18th March I believe,

He bought an old ex-Bruce Ansty R1 race bike & has spent a wee bit tarting it up, I'm looking forward to seeing how he does,

Beware of The Mad Axeman ! ;)

:ele:

I did that course talk about money for nothing but hey ho, was surrounded by kids of about 10 when i did mine gp stars of tomorrow  good luck to anyone racing this year, post your race dates i will come cheer you on if i can.

As for tyre warmers i used a set i got from the Ally Pally road and race show cant remember the make cost 80 notes bike somthing i think...... a bit cheap and cheerfull looking but did the job, however by the time they let you go most of the heat had gone!

Ah that was the bloke sat in front of me and Ian at the ACU CTC course? All the best of luck to him.

That's the chappie Lee, He's a tree surgeon & has no fear, that's why I nicknamed him The Mad Axeman, so now he has it on his company t-shirts, :rolling:

I'll pass your regards on,

All sounds good fun! Serious bit of kit that.

After much debate and mind changing I'm going racing again this year .. just can't bring myself to hang up the leathers!

How many seasons have you been saying this Mike :rolling:

I can't fault you mate, make the most of it, you know you'd only pine to race if you didn't enter each year (and you'd either be bored to flip or suddenly have more house chores to do ! ;) )

Good choice IMO

I should think that the bike cost him a fair bit, Rob, so it would be worth shelling out a bit more for good tyre warmers. Digital ones give individual, variable temperature control on each tyre. If he is racing, he will race in the wet at times, and wets need a much lower temperature than dry tyres, so standard cheapo's would not be suitable.

Cheers:D

I'll shoot you a photo of the bike when it's finished, it's classed as an R1/7 with a Tony Scott fully tuned engine, (whoever he is ? )

Either way, I'm looking forward to watching him, should be fun & great to be involved, even if I'm just his tea bitch ! ;)
