As it says in the title - Took the bike out of the garage to go and put some fuel in ready for Silverstone BSB tomorrow, turned the key and nothing....! I have the Gemel alarm on the bike and keep it on an Optimate III when not in use. When I put the key in and turn the ignition on the Neutral and Engine lights flash, the alarm beeps four times and that's it....! When I turn the ignition off again the display comes on faintly and a clicking sound is heard (about five times) and then the display goes blank again. My hunch is that the battery has given up the ghost although the Optimate shows it in the Green (The original is still on the bike and it's not a Yuasa) but any comments or assistance would be much appreciated....Gonna have to take the SV to Silverstone now.... >:

Battery

Yes, exactly the same problem with my bike before it was 2 years old - still got 13.8v at the battery which dissapeared when ignition switched on but re appeared as soon as ign switched off (battery conditioner showed fully charged) --- £70 for new battery & skint knuckles removing & replacing the rear seat cowl - All sorted - then SOLD BIKE !

Battery

I replaced it with a battery from our local factors which had a years warranty as opposed to Benelli's offer (well KJMs) of 6 months + by the time carriage was added Benelli's seemed expensive for a battery with known problems - not sure of make now!

Re: Battery

The local dealer installed Yuasa YT12B-BS quoting EUR 109 a piece. That is also fitting R1 or Monster 1000, S2, S4, 999, 998, 916. Louis would sell the same part for EUR 53.95.

The Benelli replacement code would be however YT12A-BS and it is only now that I think all my electric problems come from here!!!! That means, instruments display, neutral sensor, gas level indicator, air temperature, etc.

Will ask a battery specialist tomorrow.

Re: Battery

Louis is a shop chain as Hein Gericke. Popular in Germany and Austria. I have no idea what would be in your country is just to give an idea how much do they charge for basic parts.

Re: Battery

Thank you all for your comments....I think it's conclusive....I put a voltage meter on the battery and got the same thing as detailed above (12.5V when ignition off which dropped to 2.5V when on and back to 12.5V when off again). The four audible beeps on the alarm = voltage drop, so a new battery it is....now where to get one for a good price.... :)

Re: Battery

Thank you for your assistance in sourcing a battery - ended up ordering a YT12B-4 from BFM Motorcycles for £42.00 with a two year warranty.
