Is there anyone out there who knows how to set up a wireless network at home?

I currently have wireless for both my Desktop and laptop (I know it's lazy, but I sometimes stay in bed surfing instead of getting up!)

Anyway, I have an Epson R300 photographic printer 'plumbed' intot he desktop, but want to know how to enable the laptop to send piccies/documents to it.

I have tried going through the process that XP tells me to go through, but it keeps telling me it can't find a printer.

I will need a complete rundown from start to finish and preferably a pictorial as i am IT challenged in every way!

Many thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

Have you set up the printer to be a 'shared device'? If not you will not be able to see it on the network.

Go into 'Start', 'Printers and Faxes' then right click on the printer icon and select the 'sharing' icon. Make sure that the 'share this printer' radio button is selected then click 'apply' then 'OK'.

Otherwise get off your lazy arse and walk to where the printer is :rolling:

I'm no PC Guru on wireless networks I'm afraid. The only other thing that I can think of is that you've maybe not loaded the drivers for the printer onto the Laptop?

F%$&*£g Computers! I have an easier option... if I launch the bloody laptop out of the bedroom window I won't have the problem anymore, cause it will be smashed to pieces!

I wish you hadnt started a thread about wireless networks  -

I have so far bought 3 adsl modem routers and still dont have a wireless network !
(each time my service provider tells me that the unit must be faulty !) -

I have set it up exactly as per instrucitons - the laptop says wireless network installed ok - but the fri**ing thing tells me that the wireless network switch on my laptop is switched off - please turn on !!
(I am buggered if I can find any other way of 'switching' wireless on !!)

:smashpc: :smashpc: :smashpc: :beat: :beat: :soapbox: :soapbox:

Jeez - I feel betta now :D

Hi mate

Seen this problem with 'Not switched on' wireless on laptops lots...

Possibly there is an on/off button for the Bluetooth on your lappy.. for some stupid reason some of the manufacturers use this to switch on/off Wi-Fi too.. without telling anyone...!

Its worth a try if you have it!

Cheers for that Bolero - but that was one of the 1st things I did - I turned it upside down and every which way possible and flicked every movable thing(out dropped the battery !!)
Still same - I think I gonna resign to calling out a 'specialist' from the local area to look at it

Thanks again

If I'm right Kurt, that printer has an option to be connected via a wireless connection but this has to be purchased seperately.
Just a thought but ......can you not connect to your pc remotely and when you want to print just do it that way?

Dont be afraid of the big bad bios !

The BIOS is actually quite easy to check and it is quite hard to bugger it up !
Ask your computer man if worried, but if you want a check just do the following (not allways quite the same)
Hit del as starting (to enter bios screen )
use up and down keys to get to the feature you want (poss "intergrated peritherals")
check if wifi or bluetooth etc is "enabled" (use + or - keys to alter )
press f10 to save and exit
bobs your uncle.:)
