The genius's at bennetts have saved my bike from a total loss situation
i took her to them for a cam chain service on wednesday , imagine my horror when they informed me in minutes she was only on two cylinders on start up , allied with an atrocious rattle
I was then told that all the tre bogeymen were all still present ( the z25 bolt , the clutch basket etc ):mad::mad: all ready ,months ago to go bang , all hanging on with a thread , also the coil sticks etc , everything
Seems like i have been lucky to say the least that i brought it to them now
i knew about and pestered PRESTON SUPERBIKES before , during and after the purchase " have the mods been done?"
I was assured repeatedly that they had been , but the photographic evidence shows all the 2003 datestamps on said parts
i was totally honest and upfront in the deal when i bought my bike and i expected the same back
They cynically lied to me , well this mug wont be lied to
i will be sueing for the cost of the parts that i have had to replace
i took her italy in 2013 blissfully ignorant of the catastrophic potential
It could at best been a traumatic breakdoown 100 miles away from the WEEKLY train back , at worst a major seize up
I think they too were lucky... to to avoid a possible manslaugher/ culpaple homicide rap
I say spread the word ...dont buy from PRESTON SUPERBIKES

:blur::blur:

Wow..........that was ......lucky / unlucky

Got to admit, the Bennetts boys are usually on their toes..............good job too!

Glad you survived to tell the tale, and Bennett's will have you up and running in no time

Same happened to me when I bought mine from OnYerBike Aylesbury: salesman swore blind all mods had been done, but he was far too casual about it. On the day of sale I made him put it in writing and sign it. Two weekends later, up at Bennetts in Barnsley, Russ described the bike as in 'very original condition  - no mods whatsoever...!

Russ spent the day fixing the bike up while I rang the dealer to give them an ear-full. I paid the ÂŁ1,200 bill there and then but after a couple more phone calls with OnYerBike they paid up in full two weeks later. Reckon they knew they didn't have a leg to stand on. ;)

Good luck with your case - at least Nellie is now sorted.

Cheers,
Dom

I have the reciept that Bennetts done the work on mine, and i checked wigh them, its shocking what some dealers say to get a sale, with something like the upgrades i would have the dealer put it in writing, verbal agreements are worth nothing these days

I had the same with Millenium Motorcycles - in St Helens - which is the trading name of MotoGB Ltd - I thought I would be ok buying a Tre from source. I've got diary notes of every conversation but still I had my doubts and ended up in the safe hands at Bennetts - thank goodness.
. .

Wow Barry,
That sucks! Glad there were no incidents. I didn't do my mods until I read a passing comment on this thread and learned about them. Ignorance is definitely bliss.
Now all you're going to have to worry about is the cost and that they get the work done fast enough so you don't miss much of the riding season.

Preston Superbikes, Millennium Motorcycles, Motorcycle Centre Orrell, Bolton Motorcycles, In2Moto Warrington, Chorley Yamaha, Wigan Yamaha, Robinsons of Rochdale and KJM Motorcycles are all part of the KJM Group which is basically Moto GB. Some of them are very good, some aren't quite so clever. Glad to hear you're all sorted now.

Bloody ell Barry. Glad it's not expensive. :(

Never take anyones advice, get it checked after you've bought it.

Oh and avoid a Benelli dealer in Silverstone too. They tried to assassinate me. It was like something out of James Bond trying to stay on my Nelli. :rolling:

I never followed up sueing. Couldn't be arsed.

Looks like bennetts save the day ...again.

M&S in newcastle replaced the clutch basket on mine just after purchase (5 years ago now). Only problem was that they replaced it with another 2003 basket....

In future would always recommend written confirmation of updates.

Spotted the following year at bennetts so too late to complain but managed to get a new 2007 basket off a forum member at a decent price

I had the call from from preston superbikes this morning ... Telling me that if there were "safety upgrades" they would have done them .....FFS !!
I will let them bluster their bull until the cows come home , if they dont know the issue is not totally all about safety , then perhaps they shouldnt sell benellis , being aware of what is needed , is an integral part of dealing with these bikes
But that is an aside .... They were aware of the needed mods because i asked repeatedly , was assured they were all done and are now trying to absolve themselves from the fact that the truth was witheld from me
I believe that any court will see , and take my version of this whole situation because i have been a good honest customer and i hope that will carry the day
we shall see.

Your need was greater Ian.;) My roof space can only hold so many clutch baskets.
:D

Go for'em Barry. Barry the rottweiler.:clap:

There's a 2003 clutch basket on eBay.
I did hear that someone could fit a 2003 clutch basket, and it would run fine for quite a while if you were desperate to get on the road.
Freds lasted 12,000 miles,...most of that was going down potholes though. :blur:

I totally agree with you but only Benelli can guarantee a good representation. If we look at Ducati, they check worldwide the work done to their bikes and the customer satisfaction in each Ducati store. If they don't keep a good record Ducati takes the representation from them. Simples. :p

Help me nail preston superbikes please

After a couple of days exchanging emails, phonecalls etc with preston s/b
They have made the grand gesture of offering to SELL ME the clutch basket and z25 at cost price ÂŁ341 ... I thought for a moment they were offering to offset what i had already paid albeit at cost price not the full retail thay i paid
Very nice i thought except i have already bought same and been fitted by bennetts
They are still saying that it was not a recall issue so they have refused to help further , as i have said before i ASKED REPEATEDLY before , during and after delivery and was told the mods had been done
i need some evidence that this was known by all , especially the trade that these items were suspect and needed to be changed
any info ,links , past correspondence on here or anywhere else would be welcome
I am going to court with this and i need arming
They are weaseling out of an agreement that we had which i think is disgraceful and all bikers should take note here , untrustworthy and deceitful
your help please

Contact MCN legal team. Write them an email stating all the above. But don't name them in the email. And ask what their responsibilities regarding a claim, ensure that the way you've been lied to and treated is evident and that if the name of the company is revealed it will damage their reputation, They will see this in MCN and if they have any brains contact you to avoid the bad press.
MCN won't print the name but a few crafty pointers as to the seller can be included to ensure they know it's them.
