Hello all, Just new to the site, I have taken a shine to the Tornado 900. Can anybody tell me what there like to live with, reliability etc..wont be doing big miles more of a weekend in the lakes type of hobby for me..

The Tornado seems to be fantastic value for money and the performance seems pretty good too...and the looks.....wow...loving it..

Thanks in advance, and if anybody is selling near me (Co Durham) will certainly be interested up to around the 3.5k mark...

PS the dodgy clutch basket gear, when was that sorted by Benelli? ie what years on wards already had the stronger unit???

Just had a closer look at this one. Someone has gone to the trouble of fitting a carbon hugger and front mudguard, together with a double bubble screen, so a few hundred quids worth of extras. Get the guarantee on the upgraded parts and you would have a good buy

Yes the 2010 is just the year it was first registered, there are some 2015 plates about!! There’s never been a recall on the Benelli Tri so the warrantee work will only have been done if the original dealer did it, It’s very unlikely you’ll get anyone to do the work under warranty now.
The bike on ebay has standard body work and standard Marazocchi wheels and suspension.

I see Ian beat me to it again must type faster :)

Ahhh ok, but wikipedia says this model has upgrades like the magnesium wheels and carbon fibre bodywork? Is the clutch basket mod done under warranty? And will dealers still do it? As this is a 2010 does that just mean it was not registered until 2010 and is in fact an older bike? As there are also some 2011 to 2013 bikes on ebay too?

The carbon bodywork etc was ONLY on the LE (Limited Edition), most easily identified by the pure single seat arrangement. (and much higher price tag.)
The basket etc SHOULD have been replaced at point of sale on a 2010 Registered bike, but not all were actually done. I would want physical evidence that this was the case.
All 900 tornados were built up to 2005 only, so yes its now 10 yrs old from date of manufacture (the more recent plate means its has been sat in a crate for the intervening years). Not in itself a problem, but tyres if original, would be dating back 10 years.(not good!)

As said earlier, experience has shown me that these bikes are best bought from those with the specialist knowledge, ie keen enthusiasts of the brand (as on here) or via one or two dealers with the expertise in the brand.

Good advise from Ian regarding buying from Bennetts of Barnsley.
The one on ebay will be an unknown and will need to be checked out to make sure the modes have been done corectly which will add to the cost, it probably still has the original tyres which will have to be changed etc.

By the way Novecento just means Nine Hundred in Italian.

You can check with the vendor, but I doubt that it has had the updates done, some of which are mandatory if you are going to expect a reliable mount. Most people will advise changing the clutch basket as well as replacing the Z25 intermediate gear, shaft retaining bolt and belville washer. You can argue that the existing clutch basket can be used but the remainder are essential. That said, if you are prepared to do the work, or get Bennetts to do it, you'll end up with a cracking bike....except of course for the colour, but I'm biased on that score. There are several other updates needed, but they are easy to do and not costly.

Hi, the "novacente " is just another name for the std tre model tornado.
There are 3 models of the 900 tornado,
The std model, (which this one is)
The RS (upgraded power, forks , wheels etc)
The LE (very rare single seat exotica which launched the modern range)

That looks very nice,...... even it it is red:D.... but no mention of upgrade parst. As suggested would want evidence that work is done. Indeed some have had paperwork stating work done only to fined that they were never actually installed.
Personally would only purchase from trusted source (hence the Bennetts comment earlier) and would actually prefer a few miles to have been covered given that these are now 10 yr old bikes, even if they have been sat in the crate (worth checking its not also sitting on 10 yr old tyres!)

Welcome:clap:
another tornado in the NE would be great. All the 900 Tornados were manufactured up to 2005 so the upgrades were supposed to be done at point of sale. Despite assurances by some of the dealers, that was not always the case.
My best advice would be to buy from someone on here who will be able to guarantee the work has been done to the clutch, z25 and washer. Ideally one that has been serviced as Bennetts of Barnsley who will have done all those little tweaks (redirecting tank drain for instance)
I have just bought an 1130 from bennetts and they currently have a mint 900 with low miles for 3995. A bit more than your budget but to me that would be an ideal purchase, ie- mint condtion, low miles and Bennetts history.
