See you've ordered the wheels, Al.:ele: What happened about the insurance?

Cheers

Ian
I've not went with Carol Nash (yet) matey. I'm gonna do some more calling around. The bloke at HPS where I ordered the wheels from told me thay had a staff bike that was all tricked up and they got a really cheap quote from Aviva (Norwich Union). I'll try some more tomorrow but seeing as the bike won't be here for another 10 days (who's counting;)) then I'm sure I can get it cheaper than what I've been quoted already:)

Al, have you tried http://www.bikesure.co.ukthey did a good deal for me, always worth shopping around as much as possible for insurance, good luck Steve.
I'm just waiting on them giving me a call back Steve. Thanks for the link matey.

Well it looked as though Carol Nash were going to be my insurers as they said that they would cover me for the wheels and accessories at a cost of ÂŁ1098.98p .... but ...... after giving them a call back to make sure that everything on the bike was covered it turned out that they're not. They will only insure up to ÂŁ500 for parts that are made from carbon fibre but will insure me for the added extras that are being put onto the bike like the exhaust etc. The price dropped from ÂŁ1098.98 with a ÂŁ450xs to ÂŁ560 with a ÂŁ450xs after a bit of coming and going. So the Front mudguard, rear hugger, sprocket cover and the chain guard will be covered but not the wheels:bawl:
This is proving to be a real bloody nightmare.

On a better note though I'll be getting my bike this week instead of next .. yahooooooooo:D

At the start of april I looked to insure my gsxr750 07 and the quotes were about 20 dearer than last year even though i had another years no claims

I was doing this online and if I said i had any type of mod even pazzo,s or a tankpad the quote went up 100 quid phew, thats no exhaust or engine mods

I phoned hasting direct and the girl could not be more unhelpfull, she was absolutely useless and the quote was about another 100 quid dearer, steer clear of them

There seems to be a shift to raising premiums on any mods out there and if you dont tell them you have them they can either not pay for those damaged mods or worse still not pay up at all.

we need insurance by law but we get shafted by them constantly. When I crashed my 3 month old 6000 pound SV1000 they offered me ÂŁ3800 for it

Excees insurance is new to me but There is also what they call gap insurance when you buy a bike on HP, usually about ÂŁ300 for the term of the HP and covers the difference between the insurers offer and what you are due on HP

Just a little update on my insurance dilema.

I ended up going with Carol Nash. Now get this. Their original quote to me was ÂŁ1098.98p with a ÂŁ450 xs. They dropped that to ÂŁ560.00 with the same xs and going through the same brokers as before. Equity Red Star are insuring me for all of the modifications that are on the bike and I will get market value for the additional parts except .... Equity Red Star will only insure up to ÂŁ500 of carbon fibre parts that are fitted to the bike. I also took out lid and leathers cover too as well as personal accident insurance which bumped my premium up to ÂŁ615 and a couple of pence.

Insurance companies certainly know how to get you by the short and curlies:mad:

Guys

Having had to shop around for bike quotes today I managed to gain a little insight to what is going on.....

Present situation is that there are 11 companies willing to take on the Tornado Tre and the LE and only 3 for the TNT, Cafe Racer and TNT Titanium, also the prices are hiked with add ons.

The best quote I got for the LE today was through SWINTON BIKES who place with Royal Sun Alliance and on-line discounts brought it down to ÂŁ77.73. Obviously past record and postcode dictates your quote but that includes full No Claims Protection and voluntary excess of ÂŁ250.00. A compulsory excess of ÂŁ450.00 is the loading on the bikes.

Multi-Bike quotes are best through Equity Red Star and again SWINTON BIKES quoted ÂŁ350.10 for a Tornado LE and a TNT Titanium together.

If you are interested for yourself then contact Swinton Bikes on 0800 035 4697 and ask for Tom White. I said I would mention him for the legwork he has just done for me.

Have fun!
Dave

I used to be with Swinton Dave but they wouldn't replace any aftermarket bits that I got added to the bike if I binned it. I gave them a list of everything that was getting added to her and they said that they would insure me. It was only through further questioning that I found out I would only get the value for the standard bike and nothing for any parts that I'd popped on myself:mad:

Al;)

Found this too but they will accept specified items added and insure accordingly. I have found that getting them to commit in writing is the hard part but once the letter arrives, they are tied to the contract of replacement.

I reckon there is enough of us who could argue the extensive use of carbon fibre on the LE (to include your wheels) to make any of the companies see the light. As highlighted, rather than tackle the broker it might be worth a try with the company direct each time.

Royal Sun Alliance and Equity Red Star seem to be the ones who dictate to the brokers.

Can't complain about Carole Nash anyway - they were excellent as a broker when I used them in 04 to 06.

Regards,
Dave

I was with H&R Tonnee when I needed to make a claim when some bugger crashed into me on my gixxer. The service was pants mate and I ended up speaking to one of the directors about how long they were taking to sort things out for me. I wouldn't recommend them buddy:(

Well another update, my own insurance company, One Bike Insurance, have just refused to even insure me on a benelli ??

Their reason being that Benelli stopped making the 900 tornado in 2005 so how can I have a brand new 2009 one !!

After explaining they still refused

Just been phoning around to insure my RS...
Thought I post the quotes up on this thread...

eBike ÂŁ294 (200xs)
H&R ÂŁ256 (inc. 28 for excess insurance whcih brings down excess from 600 to 100)
BikeTeam ÂŁ250 (450xs)
DialDirect ÂŁ229 (600xs) ÂŁ191 with ÂŁ725xs (475 comp + 250 vol)

Thats with 5 years NCD for 40yr old, Meta alarm.
Have been with eBike last 3 years... and been with H&R before too. Havent decided which to go for. Dont like high excess so prob H&R or eBike... or might ring round some more.
